Mallorca – The Ironman 70.3 is entering a new round

The 7th of May marks the date again : For the sixth time the Ironman 70.3 will take place on the biggest of the Balearic Islands – Mallorca.

 

Swimming, cycling and half-marathon in a holiday paradise

 

The triathlon is held in the harbour city Alcúdia and proceeds over a total distance of 70,3 miles (112,9 kilometres). That is half of the route of the orginal Ironman Hawaii (140,6 m / 226 km).

The Ironman on Mallorca is part of a trithlon-series at round about 85 places all over the world and is the qualification for the Ironman 70.3 Championship, which is held in the Australian Queensland this year.

 

Mallorca is known as a training-paradise for many cyclists and triathletes.

 

 

The venue Alcúdia is situated at the northcoast and is one of the most popular cities of the island. The huge, 25 km long sandy beach, which extends all along the bay of the town, is the main tourist attraction.

Also non-triathletes will also get their fill here and can of course watch the spectacular race from the outside.

 

 

Those, who have the necessary change can additionaly experience everything closely and support their favourite athletes, while the team of Thomas Cook – the operator – looks after you.

 

 

This is possible because of the VIP-package, which is offered by the tour operator and depending on the category limited on 100 or 5 persons.

 

 

For the paid price you get entrance to the VIP-lounge, to the finishing line and to the awards ceremony.

 

 

The participation in the Ironman 70,3 on Mallorca also has a proud price with round about 530 euros.

 

 

All in all on Mallorca there are 30 spots available for the championship-race in Australia. In Mooloolaba, Queensland 1.800 athletes will participate on the 04th of September to win the prize money of 45.000$.

 

 

The route

 

The triathlon-route begins at the harbour of Alcúdia with a rectangular swimming route and after a change to the bike the highlight of the race is following in the Tramuntana Mountains. At the end the bike is parked and the spectacle ends with a half-marathon along the bay again at the starting line.

All in all the route leads through several little villages and is therefor diversely and also scenically attractive.

 

You do not want to pass this event ? Then a journey to Alcúdia does not only pay off because of the Ironman race, but also because of the various tourism offers on-site like the beautiful white sandy beach.
